What Is The World Coming To These Days?

Today's top story is that someone is trying to sell a slider cap for a Roland CR-78 on ebay for £15 (almost $24) with £7 shipping ($11). One little slider cap!

"I HAVE BEEN SORTING THROUGH MY INVENTORY OF SYNTH SPARES AND UNEARTHED THESE. THEY ARE IN SUPER CONDITION AND STILL WHITE AND NOT FADED/YELLOWED. PERFECT FOR REPLACING ANY MISSING ONES OR FOR RESTORING OLD YELLOWED ONES."

Would you pay $35 for this?:

I guess if you were missing one and you just really wanted to replace it...

maybe I'm over reacting.

  1. I have paid some stupid (though, not that stupid) money for parts simply because I was selling an item, and if it's missing stuff like that, it generally hurts the price (that is, I'd take more than a $35 hit on the price).

A cap like that, though, you'd think you could find a suitable alternative somewhere.

  2. Yeah, i kinda thought that. That's why I added the bit at the end about maybe over reacting.... but by that point i'd already spent 20 minutes editing the colors of the first pic in photoshop, so I went ahead with the post.

You'd think there'd be a cheeper substitute, but I guess there probably isn't. It's just such a small little piece of plastic!

I paid $70 about a year ago for a Roland SEQ- 315 graphic equalizer and it has 32 of those slider caps!

  3. I don't think you're overreacting. That is nuts. Reminds me of toy collecting, like vintage Star Wars action figures. You have Wicket the Ewok but not his spear, so you go on ebay and hunt down this sliver of plastic and pay like $8 overall for it.

I know there are repros out there, so I'd be leery of anything that small commanding that high of a price. I've seen repro Rogue Moog slider cap sets, but they weren't ridiculously priced. Same thing for toys, there are some repro part makers out there.

You should totally sell off some of those caps at $10 each + $5 shipping! ;-) you could buy a whole new SEQ-315. Or six.

  4. Yellowed slider caps are seriously just the worst thing in the world!

  5. I don't know... slightly yellowed sounds kind of nice.

  7. I found this..http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-repro-FULL-set-21pc-roland-SH-09-KNOBS-CAPS-SET-3x-rotary-knob-18-slidecaps-/300687338839?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46025cad57#ht_1450wt_1189

maybe it's worth it when it's a whole set of knobs and caps. But at the same time it's a crazy price for plastic..

There's a old man in my town, and he's selling old, very good looking knobs for effectpedals etc. And he takes half a dollar for each knob.
That's a fair price in my opinion.

  8. And by the way, faded white/yellowed. Isn't that the better alternative?
