The Magician's Nephew

Here is a photo of a stage play adaptation of The Magician's Nephew with nice sets and costumes. When I was about five years old my Gramma took me to a high school production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (a girl from our church was playing the part of Lucy). By five I was already obsessed with Narnia and I remember having such a wonderful time seeing that play. It seems like Narnia stage plays are happening all the time but I still haven't managed to see another since that first one, and that was so long ago...

  1. I have to admit, I've never read any of these old books, but I did see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe a few years back during a tour. There was this one little building in the woods. I walked in to a big empty theater and the kids were just getting transported into the snow. Not sure if it's considered to be a good movie by the true fans, but I enjoyed it.

I guess it's always nice to find yourself liking something that you don't associate yourself with. I didn't think I liked fantasy stuff at all, but that seems to have changed. I guess it's good to have a sense of who you are, but it's always kind of refreshing to see that expand and move over time.

  2. bblah, I havn't read this book but I have a cassette of a bbc radio dramatisation which I listened to but found TOO CRAZY! But also I have read a bit of the novel and found it quite good, and I was wondering what you thought of films and things that are made out of the novels and whether you ever watch them?

  3. Yes, I've seen all the films. I love the old BBC versions and the old animated LWW movie. I don't know if they did a better job of capturing the essence of Narnia (I'd like to believe they did) or it's just because those were the ones I grew up with. Of the new movies I think The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is good and I don't care a whole lot for the other two. Prince Caspian is alright and I think Dawn Treader is just awful. I'm fairly certain The Magician's Nephew is meant to be the next movie made. I think that could be really great and I'm sure we're all ready for the return of Tilda Swinton!

  4. And Tom: I agree. I am usually the most stubborn person (this blog is proof of that!) but there is nothing better than discovering something fresh and new,
